NetEnt is always looking to break new ground, and Gems Of Adoria is certainly unlike anything we’ve seen before. You can place bets between 10p and £200 per spin, which is a solid bet range, and you will benefit from 15 winning ways here. The RTP is a decent and average 96.13 %, but the max win potential unfortunately sticks out like a sore thumb.
This makes the game unnecessary unattractive to anyone who cares about the math model, not least when it’s combined with highly volatile gameplay. Low to medium volatility would have been far more suitable, but most players will probably try this game for completely different reasons anyway. Gems Of Adoria seems, in many ways, to be a “trial balloon” from the leading-edge Swedish developer, and hopefully enough players will bite to merit a more solid follow-up title.
The wild symbol looks like a red equipment box with golden edges and big golden W in the middle. It will step in for all regular symbols to help you form winning combos, just like wilds normally do.
You will trigger the Striking Wilds feature at random times here, and you will see the camera angle pan down to the left when this happens. Between 2 and 9 wilds will then slam down on the reels at random positions, and many times you will pack reels full of wilds this way.
A somewhat more innovative and interesting random modifier is the Flipping Symbols. Taking full advantage of the 3D engine, you will see between 2 to 5 symbol rows flip around either vertically or horizontally. You might get more than one symbol flip each time, and each flip reveals a more lucrative payout.
The glowing orb in the middle of what looks like a stone well is the scatter symbol here. You get 10, 20 or 50 free spins when you land 3, 4 or 5 of this symbol at the same time. You will further benefit from both the Striking Wilds feature and the Flipping Symbols during the bonus round, and the whole thing plays out pretty much like the base game.
Despite the weak potential, we certainly looked forward to our 200 spins test session. It’s not everyday you see a video slot that runs on a real-time 3D engine after all. You can see how we fared in the highlights video below, and only the fun parts have been included, of course.
Gems Of Adoria is the kind of game that you just have to try because of the novelty. NetEnt is clearly testing the waters with their real-time 3D effects, and visually it can be quite impressive. It’s kind of like the feeling you got the first time you saw Super Mario World 3D, but NetEnt has done a poor job with the math model here.
For some reason they have gone with a max win potential of only 500x your stake (per spin), and combined this with highly volatile gameplay. It’s hard to understand why, as a more decent math model would have made it that much easier to glean the reception of the unusual 3D optics. The Flipping Symbols feature is cleverly done, and we’re pretty sure we’ll see more of the 3D engine in the future. We only cross our fingers for a more solid game underneath it all.
Pros
Cons
There really aren’t many games quite like this out there at this time, but you can check out hundreds of gemstone slots via the provided link. We’ve done our best to dig up some similar games below.
Arcane Gems- is a Quickspin powered title that offers a somewhat similar 3D experience. The reels are set inside a treasure box, and it’s all about the locking win respins feature here. Lock all 5 reels for a combined 25x multiplier, and win up to 5,625x your stake in this medium volatile gemstone title.
Mega Flip- might not come with flipping symbols like the game at hand, but instead you’ll see the whole grid flip when you trigger the bonus round. This makes the 2-2-3-3-4-4 reel set potentially even more lucrative, and payouts up to 5,493x your stake is possible here.
Gems Bonanza- is a highly volatile Pragmatic Play title that’s literally sparkling with jewels. It plays out on an 8×8 grid with a cluster pays engine, and you will benefit from 5 different modifiers here. You can also trigger a 5-tier bonus round, and win up to 10,000x your stake.
